Institute for Marriage, Family and Systemic Practice – ALTERNATIVA (IA) was founded in Skopje, Macedonia, in 2009 as a professional organization with specific activities dedicated to promote theory, practice, education and research in the field of psychology, psychotherapy, consulting and systemic practice. It was established to promote and develop systemic thinking to conduct education in family and systemic psychotherapy which will be culturally and gender sensitive, to carry out scientific and research activities focused on systemic understanding of human behavior, organization and functioning of human systems, as well as to implement systemic psychotherapy and other systemic interventions whenever needed. To conduct and develop research activities in the respected field throughout national, regional and international projects is regular activity in this institute. IA carried out many activities and several projects in a close collaboration with NGOs and local community groups. IA was accredited by EFTA (European Family Therapy Association) in 2011 and by EAP (European Association for Psychotherapy) in 2013, becoming a EAPTI (European Accredited Psychotherapy Training Institute).
